Dieke Venema (1990) graduated from ArtEZ in Zwolle in 2012. After that she worked as an artist in residence at the EKWC and Beeldenstorm. In 2019 she completed a two-year work period at De Ateliers in Amsterdam.

Venema’s work focuses on the "how" of working. Where after graduation this was reflected in the ‘’how’’ of the making process, this shifted over the years to a substantive ‘’how’’. An interest in the mindset of a working process or work, in which aspects such as skin, shape and material still play a major role. She uses materials like plaster, papier-mâché, wood charcoal, aluminum and bronze.

In recent years, the drawing - in addition to the sculpture - has acquired an independent role within her work. Where sculpture has a strong "practical" side, there is more space in drawing for the simple and quick gesture. In De Fabriek, Venema uses a drawing as a floor plan for her first space-filling installation. With this she examines how the sketchy line of the drawing can be translated into object and space.
